Grandpa Tell Me About The Good Old Days.

FOREVER REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11, 2001!

NANCY'S ART CLASS
You wanted a story from "old times".....really old times.....we had to take "art class"...a school requirement.....I had solid straight "A" grades. but I got a 60 (failing) grade in Art.....my Art teacher said "If you would at least try, i would give you a passing grade, and you would make the "honor roll" in spades..........I told him "I hate it.....Art, Music..... and I never changed....Nancy

ABHORRENT ATTITUDE.

Another story (You Asked For It)........of course, I hated music just as much (if ya haven't noticed I'm completely "tone deaf" ) ...& I used to "giggle" in Music Class"..& the teacher liked me,,,,..... so he didn't have me expelled, (hard to expel an honor student)...but he made me write the following sentence two hundred & fifty times (250).......

CONVERSATION & ABHORRENT ATTITUDE IN THE GENERAL MUSIC CLASS AT THIS HIGH SCHOOL IS DETRIMENTAL TO THE ACQUISITION OF KNOWLEDGE AND IS TO BE REGARDED AS REPUGNANT BREACH OF FAIR PLAY AND GOOD BREEDING.

This is a totally true story, If you wrote that 250 times, like I did, you would remember it till the day you died.....and I will too...........

Love to you all, Nancy

The Palmetto from Hell

I like the story (not so long ago) on one of my visits to your home in Southern Florida (McKinley Street).... Frank and I were relaxing on the front porch (actually Carolyn was probably doing the dishes or something)....& Frank was showing me the "poof clouds" and there was a gentle breeze and Frank and I were reminiscing and musing about the tranquility and almost mystical nature of a gorgeous Southern Florida evening (hope I'm conveying the feeling of that moment---so gentle and peaceful....brother and sister bonding...and a palmetto bug (about the size of a small humming bird) landed on Frank's shoulder.....Well, he jumped to his feet screaming in stark terror and ran into the house as if the Devil Himself was chasing him......I can't make it sound as funny as it was....we just started to laugh and laugh, and always had a chuckle over that incident ever since.

AFRAID OF THE DARK!
Ok, Now a story from Carolyn's memory banks: My father died when I was only nine years old but he left me with so many memories. I have a recollection of him coming into my room after I had been tucked away for the night. I was frightened of the dark and he was answering my calls. He sat down beside my bed and whispered "Don't be afraid of the dark sweetheart, there are no ghosts here for they don't exist. Display caution when it comes to the living because only they embody good and evil. You are safe here in your home as I would not allow anyone to harm you." I was only 5 years old at the time and his words gave me such comfort; I never had a fear of the darkness again.... Carolyn

"Uncle Joe"

dear carolyn; here is a story i thought you might enjoy.
we had the family over the house one thanksgiving and our kids were up in the attic playing. suddenly danny came downstairs and said " joey and eric were spitting on him". i went up to the attic and not only found the spitters but about fifty holes in the ceiling from joey and eric punching it. well needless to say i went nuts and hollared at the kids and made joey " stand in the corner " . well a certain unnamed sister-in-law thought that was cruel and unusual punishment and the rest of the day was a little frosty. a few years later i heard that that certain unnamed sister-in-law used to threaten her kids with " if you don't behave i'm going to send you to live with uncle joe".....!Joe

The Father That Cared or, The Unlucky Possum!

I was about 8 or maybe 9, and I remember being outside of our house on McKinley Street in the back yard! We (me and Stacey and Jimmy, at least I think Jimmy was there)? were playing, when all of a sudden we heard some rustling in the bushes along the pool screen. I started messing with the bushes and I heard this hissing sound, it turned out to be a possum. It was hissing angrily and there was foam and stuff coming out if it's mouth! Well, if I recall correctly someone (probably Stacey) started screaming and then dad came out! When he saw what was going on, he told us to get away from that thing and he went in and got a bat!! Fearing that it was rabid I guess, and not knowing if we had been bitten, he proceeded to beat the thing to death!! Now I know that this story might be a bit morbid and if the ASPCA reads this, dear old dad might have some explaining to do! ;0) But, this event did two things for me! One, it made me hate that big rat impostor of an animal (namely the possum), and two, It showed me how much the love and caring of a father can turn a nice gentle man into a force to be reckoned with!!!!

Nancy's favorite Poem

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the full clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud,

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.
